Interactions in English

Over the past few years, I have been putting my English degrees to good use and publishing a series of English language books for Francophone schools in Cameroon. The series is called Interactions in English and follows the new curriculum, introduced in 2015, which focuses strongly on communicating in English in the real world, and aims to provide the language skills necessary to function successfully at home, at school, work and in the wider world.  

The textbook is organised into five modules which include Family and Social Life; Economic Life and Occupations; Environment, Well-being and Health; Citizenship/Human Rights; and Media and Communication. Each module has 3 units with an assessment section at the end of each module. 

The series was selected by the Cameroonian Ministry of Education as the approved textbooks for use by all Cameroonian pupils, which I was well chuffed about.

Each unit is organised as follows:

  • Unit opener 
  • Listening and speaking 
    • Listening activities to enable student to develop different listening skills (as per syllabus); also, to serve as an introduction to the unit & the language to be learned
    • Speaking activities to enable student to develop different speaking skills (as per syllabus); also, to enable the student to use & practise new language covered in the listening text
  • Speech work
    • Speech work activities to enable student to practise different aspects of English pronunciation (as per syllabus)
  • Reading and comprehension
    • Reading activities to enable student to develop different reading skills (as per syllabus); also, to enable the student to read & understand a wide variety of genres & to develop new language in context
  • Vocabulary
    • Vocabulary activities to enable student to understand & use different words & expressions (as per syllabus); please ensure that these words & expressions have been introduced in context in the listening and/or reading texts 
  • Grammar
    • Grammar activities to enable student to understand & use different language structures (as per syllabus); please ensure that these structures have been introduced in context in the listening and/or reading texts
  • Writing
    • Writing activities to enable student to develop different writing skills (as per syllabus); also, to enable the student to use, in writing, new vocabulary, language structures & information learned in the unit
