Generative AI can support 21st-century skills when the task makes students judge, remake or defend the output. It does not do that if they paste a question and submit the first answer.

What this page means by those skills
Here they are: critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, communication, digital literacy, leadership and entrepreneurship. They overlap. The classroom job is still a task with a standard, not a tool demo.
One use each
- Critical thinking. Students interview a historical figure in a chatbot, then mark what the model invented against a named source.
- Creativity. Use a model to generate options, then students choose, combine and finish the work themselves.
- Collaboration. The group asks for project roles or a first plan, then argues about which suggestions are usable.
- Communication. AI feedback on a draft is a starting point. Students decide what to accept in a peer review, not in private with the bot.
- Digital literacy. The lesson is the failure mode: bias, made-up citations, and what the tool cannot see about your class.
- Leadership and entrepreneurship. A short simulation or a rough market sketch is fine. The judgement call stays with the student.
What not to do
Do not treat fluency as understanding. Do not skip a school policy on data and student work. Do not use a public chatbot for anything that identifies a child.
